nodo

Is Nodo safe?

Yes. Nodo only acts on Twitch pages and requests. It never asks for your Twitch login, e-mail or password, and it isn't a VPN: the rest of your browsing doesn't go through Nodo. On the free plan, nothing goes through our network. Below: what the extension does, what goes through Nodo's network on Pro, and why each permission exists.

What goes through Nodo's network

  • On Free: nothing. When a commercial break starts, the extension swaps the ad for the stream's own 360p version, straight from your browser.
  • On Pro (and during the free HD days after you install): only the requests that control the stream, the ones that ask Twitch which qualities and video segments exist. The video itself still comes straight from Twitch to you.
  • These requests are encrypted (HTTPS) from your browser all the way to Twitch. Nodo's exit only relays the connection: it sees which Twitch server it goes to, not what's inside.
  • The exit only accepts a fixed list of Twitch addresses. Any other address is refused, so it can't be used to browse other sites.

What Nodo never does

  • Ask for your Twitch login, e-mail or password.
  • Read what you type on Twitch, or your chat messages.
  • Act outside Twitch: the extension's permissions only cover Twitch addresses and runnodo.com.
  • Change your IP for the rest of the internet. Outside the stream-control requests on Pro, your connection stays as it is.
  • Sell data, show ads or load third-party trackers.

Why each permission exists

When you install it, your browser lists what the extension can do. These are all of Nodo's permissions:

Control proxy settings
Send Pro's stream-control requests to Nodo's exit. Everything else keeps going direct.
Access to twitch.tv, ttvnw.net and live-video.net
These are Twitch's addresses: the page, the player and the stream requests. That's where the extension works.
Access to runnodo.com
Talk to Nodo's site: your account, free mode and the adjustments when Twitch changes something.
Read and block Twitch requests
Tell which requests belong to the stream, hand Pro's credential to Nodo's exit and block Twitch's own tracking pixels.
Storage
Keep your choices (allowed channels, language) and your Nodo session in your browser.
Alarms
Recurring tasks, such as renewing the session and sending the daily counters.

What data Nodo handles

  • Without an account: a random device identifier, so free mode and the trial don't restart on every install.
  • With an account: your e-mail and subscription status. Card payments are processed by Stripe; card details never touch our servers.
  • IP address: used temporarily to run the connection and limit abuse.
  • Daily counters, numbers only (how many breaks appeared and were swapped), with no channel, account or device. You can turn them off in the extension options.

On the Chrome Web Store, an IP address falls under "location". Nodo doesn't use GPS or your device's location.

Details, retention periods and your rights are in the Privacy Policy.

How we check

Our daily test opens a real stream and simulates an ad break to check the switch to 360p and the return to video. It covers this scenario, not every ad, browser or plan. Results and the data recorded for each run are on the status page. See today's status.
